Beaver Street Fisheries
✕Based in Jacksonville, Florida, Beaver Street Fisheries has been a leading importer, manufacturer, and distributor of frozen seafood products for more than 60 years. In 1979, Beaver Street Fisheries established their Sea Best® retail brand. This brand reflects the company’s core values of providing an array of affordable, high-quality frozen seafood to their customers. To ensure the best quality and safest seafood reach their customers, Beaver Street Fisheries implements food safety processes throughout their plants that align with the Global Food Safety Initiative and the Global Aquaculture Alliance's (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) Seafood Processing Standards.
Beaver Street Fisheries is committed to seafood sustainability and believes that mankind has an inherent responsibility to act as a steward of the environment. These initiatives are nothing new to the team at Beaver Street Fisheries. They were the first seafood repackaging plant in the world to be certified under the GAA’s BAP program. These standards address environmental and social responsibility, animal welfare, food safety, and seafood traceability. Beaver Street Fisheries also utilizes organically grown agriculture and aquaculture products and employs selective and sustainable harvest methods of wild-caught seafood. Many of their wild-caught products carry a Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification – including their pollock and halibut.Â
To further continue their focus on sustainable seafood sourcing, Beaver Street Fisheries is working with their subsidiary, Tropic Seafood Ltd. on strategies to support aquaculture activities. Tropic Seafood is the largest lobster tail and seafood processor in the Bahamas and the Caribbean. Together, the two are developing ways to support aquaculture for several native Bahamian fish including mahi-mahi and pompano. The ultimate goal is a vertical integration system in which Beaver Street Fisheries will operate the seafood supply chain from the farm all the way through the distribution process.
