For a restaurant to become a Right Bite partner the following actions are requested:
- Offer at least two sustainable seafood items on its menus at all times.
- Replace at least one seafood item with a more sustainable option (Example: “yellow” to “green,” “red” to “yellow,” or “red” to “green”).
- Commit to at least one staff seafood training in the first quarter of the year (additional trainings arranged per request). The training combines a 15 minute overview of the primary concerns with commercial fishing and a review of the partner’s menu to provide sustainability stories for staff to celebrate with diners. Training can be customized to speak in greater depth and/or about specific issues of interest.
- Pay the $200 annual fee through gift certificates.
- Participate in at least one sustainable seafood focused event annually. Event options include: Host a sustainable seafood event. Right Bite staff will support the event through menu recommendations, promote via Shedd’s social media outlets where appropriate, and provide staff at the event to discuss sustainability issues, Right Bite, and/or other topics per request with attendees.
- Donate to (in-kind: product or services, or cash) and/or participate in an existing Shedd event. (Examples: Auxiliary Board Fundraiser - BLU, Board of Trustees Gala, Sustainable Seafood Dinners etc.)
- Collaborate with Shedd to create a sustainability focused event.
In exchange, Shedd will:
- Include a description and link to the restaurant in the Right Bite section of Shedd's website and celebrate partnership or applicable promotions via social media where appropriate.
- Allow the restaurant to use Shedd's logo to promote sustainable seafood, if desired, and with prior approval from our Marketing Department.
- Review the restaurant’s seafood offerings and provide assistance with sourcing sustainable options if needed.
- Provide instruction and materials for the restaurant’s staff seafood training. Materials include our Right Bite seafood wallet card, as well as free mini-passes to Shedd when available.
- Provide opportunities for additional learning and/or specialty programs for early career chefs to build knowledge and key skills in sustainable seafood.
- Give the restaurant preferred partner status for any new initiatives, including any promotional and media opportunities that may arise.
